GPD XP Plus

It worked really good and all I was using it for was emulation. But I dislikes the buttons and switches. They all felt too clicky and not comfortable. The Nintendo switch joycon buttons felt better then the controllers for this.
My only real complaint about is that it does get a little difficult holding it for long periods because it's kind of narrow and my hands
Lack of analog triggers is always a dealbreaker for me. I hope that starts to become a more common feature in the future.
If this had a 16:9 screen I would consider it. But If I want black bars I can just use my phone with the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 and a gamesir x2 attached to it.
This form factor felt the same by attaching an android phone with gamesir x2. Unlike RP2+ or anbernic devices, the shape and sizes differ. I honestly dont see much reason to get this
I would have chosen this device over the odin lite if they can just give more color variation. I mean, they can simply make some skin sticker options if they really wanna stick to their "favorite color". Handhelds from Aya and AYN are \ooking much better these days. Will wait until there is a good-looking, portable and affordable device that can run 3DS, PS2, and switch smoothly. i.e. Will still stick to my modded switch for a while-> it is easy to customize and it can run 3DS games and some PS2 games
I wish there was a big boy 4:3 screen handheld. I mainly play games for this aspect ratio.
That is exactly what I was looking for too my friend. Now hear me out, look closely at Surface Duo 2. It is very close to what you described. It has great dual 4:3 AMOLED displays, 5.8" each, that are separate and fold all the way back, and do not have the screen durability issues of the Galaxy Folding phones. It sports a Snapdragon 888 and 8GB RAM. It fits a variety of telescopic controllers, USB-C ones included. You can fold it all the way back to play on one screen, or use both if you're playing DS/3DS games too. The price has come down a lot, and might be something you're interested in! They sell new for $999 new, cheaper used, but I scored mine for $250 with a small crack on the back and one of the screens. Usability is perfect though. 4:3 is important to me too, and I'm enjoying it very much for retro. Just be warned, the case options are very limited due to the nature of the design. I wish there was a single screen 4:3 phone on the market, but there isn't sadly.
A 16:10 screen is the sweet spot for gaming. the 4:3 will still look big on that aspect ratio. Dunno why companies make these long screens, height is still too small.
Although the duo is pretty sweet in itself, the folding is just another thing in the way. You figure a 4:3 with an 888 at minimum (up to ps2 maybe) a 960p screen (dont really need 2k or 4k res) . Also to those who think this would be an uncomfortable experience, the 2ds is pretty sweet and comfortable. Although I would place buttons lower (for bigger hand, I've always thought that the buttons were too high) the size was decent in my hands. Perhaps bumps in back for ergonomics, battery size, and cooling would compensate for the odd shape/size. I bet you would be able to fit a huuuuge battery , actually good speakers, and a multitude of I/O ports for expandability and versatility.
